From The Community LD —

DeColores,

Last week I wrote about the shift of our community from “walk driven” to “4th Day driven”.  As part of that effort it is necessary to recognize and support the the need for youth participation within our organization.  It has been several years since we have had a successful flight for Chrysalis but we have moved forward with an effort to form a steering commitee and renew interest and support for this valuable part of the community.

We have some dedicated, hard working indivduals who are trying, with all of their hearts,  to encourage youth participation by hosting “Hoots” which is a “Gathering” for the young people.  They hosted the first one last week and had a great Christian band and some youth participation.  As a first time effort, it was excellent.  In order for these to be really successful, they are in need of your support.  This is going to take some effort on behalf of the community, but look at it as an investment in the future of Emmaus.

We as a community,  and we, as the Board,  must come to these functions and show our support.  You do not need to come and stay for the entire evening,  just come for an hour or so and show your interest and support for the effort of those who are working so hard and devoting so much time to make this successful.

We can all talk about supporting the effort to include the youth in our future, but it is time to show it on a personal level.

When you read about the next “Hoot” , put it on your calendar, support their need for snacks, drinks, and what ever else is on the agenda.  Contact the Youth Directors or Pastors at your churches and other groups with youth participation and extend a personal invitation to attend.  Give them a ride.  Arrange for a bus or van from your church, or be creative and do whatever you can to solicit participation.

Have this as a challenge to your reunion group to help raise the attendance at all Emmaus related functions.  Get involved. Don’t wait for someone else to do something.  Step up to the plate and be a leader in this effort.

This is the “4th day” – We are leaders and we have a job to do.  Look at your commitment to your own personal walk and hold yourself accountable to make the difference in someone’s life every day.

EVERYONE – get into, or start a reunion group – that is the strength of our organization.  Take the lead – don’t wait for someone to ask – do it yourself.
The next ETEC Gathering is scheduled for Saturday, September 18th at Jasper FUMC.  Sponsorship training will be held at 4pm followed by dinner and festivities beginning at 5pm.  Bring your favorite dish and several of your friends and neighbors and enjoy a great evening with Christian friends.  Invite your Sunday school class to come along.  Invite your friends from work.
